Blythe Duff

Blythe Duff Blythe Duff was born in East Kilbride and has always lived in the West Of Scotland.

Blythe has performed extensively with among others, The National Theatre of Scotland, Frantic Assembly, Paines Plough, Oran Mor, The Donmar Warehouse, The Traverse, The Royal Lyceum, The Citizens,  Volcanic Productions NZ, and Scottish and English National Opera  Most recently she received critical acclaim as Mrs Poole in Be Near Me (nominated for a MEN award) Helen Hughes in Good With People (nominated for a CATS award) and Carlotta in Beautiful Burnout, making her New York debut in Feb 2011. She was delighted to reprise the role for the 2012 Sydney, Perth and Wellington Festivals.  She returned to New York in spring 2013 for a sellout, critically acclaimed run of ‘Good With People'.

She has narrated various poems for The Complete Works of Robert Burns for the BBC, performed on the concert platform in Sound Bites for Scottish Opera, The Burns Bicentennial Concert, The Young Person’s Guide To The Orchestra with the BBC Symphony Orchestra broadcast live on Radio 3, narrated the audio book 44 Scotland Street for Time Warner and most recently recorded Hansel and Gretal with the Scottish Opera Orchestra.

Blythe’s television credits range from All Star Family Fortunes to This Morning and from Songs Of Praise to Ready Steady Cook. She is undoubtably best known as Jackie Reid in ITV 1’s Taggart.


In 2010 Blythe formed Datum Point Productions making Sarajevo their first short film (part of the Nokia Shorts - Edinburgh Film Festival 2011) ‘Just Checking' Good With People and Ciara.

She is a patron for Scottish Youth Theatre and an Ambassador in Scotland for the Prince’s Trust. In June 2011 she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Caledonian University for her outstanding contribution to the performing arts. She is married to Tom and is mum to Sarah and Katie.

Blythes most famous role is undoubtedly that of ‘DS Jackie Reid’ in the world’s longest running detective series TAGGART.

For 21 years Blythe has appeared on ITV1 in this legendary series which has been sold world wide to over 80 countries. Jackie Reid was first introduced in Taggart 15 - Death Comes Softly as a uniformed community cop. Hundreds of dead bodies later, Taggart 109 was shown on the ITV network in Feb 2011, and Jackie Reid had finally become a Detective Inspector!

Blythe has made numerous guest appearances on This Morning, Scottish Passport, Loose Women, Antique Programmes, Songs of Praise, Documentaries, (inc.‘There’s Been A Murder!’) All Star Family Fortunes and is a Ready Steady Cook winner!

BEAUTIFUL BURNOUT - Making her New York debut in Feb 2011, Blythe opened in this award winning show at St Annes Warehouse Brooklyn. The show, which is a joint production with the movement based company Frantic Assembly will tour to the Sydney, Perth and Wellington Festival In Jan/Feb/March 2012, giving Blythe the opportunity to catch up with everything Australia and NZ has to offer!

BE NEAR ME was adapted from the Andrew O’Hagan novel, by the celebrated Scottish actor Ian McDiarmid (STAR WARS) who also appeared in the central role of Father David. Blythe played his house keeper Mrs Poole (nominated for a MEN award) and was directed by the National Theatre of Scotland’s John Tiffany, who directed the renowned Black Watch. It was a joint production with The Donmar Warehouse.

BBC Radio Scotland is growing an archive all of Robert Burns's poetic works. Esme Kennedy and veteran producer Dave Batchelor have recorded performances by some of Scotland's best-loved actors. Blythe has recorded eleven pieces for this collection including poems and songs for example...I cam o'er the Cairney Mount... Epitaph on a Wag in Mauchline... For the sake o' Somebody...
